School Readiness Program – Guiding our Pre-schooler’s into Life Long Learners
Did you know that we provide a specific School Readiness program for the year before school with an Early Childhood Teacher with over 25 years’ experience? The program has been running since 2009 with some exceptional results and is highly regarded by our local schools.
The program has been developed in collaboration with local School Teachers and incorporates a number of skills needed for transition to Kindergarten such as pre-maths and pre-writing activities, cutting and pasting along with the Jolly Phonics and Pre-Lit Programs. In Term two a home reader is introduced along with a weekly homework book.
Also required skills for “big school are practiced and learnt such as; how to line up, putting your hand up and not calling out, putting your shoes and jumpers on and off, unwrapping their own lunch and packing away their personal belongings. The children will learn how to behave while on an excursion within the local community, how to ride the bus safely, Stranger Danger, Personal Space and what to do about bullying.
All of the above is implemented by following the interest of each individual child from a play based learning program in our indoor and outdoor environments which include; our mud play kitchen, bikes, scooters, large sandpit, creek bed, climbing structures, arts and craft and the Intentional Teaching of the Fundamental Movement Skills. The children will develop their social skills by learning to share, take turns and also develop confidence and self-esteem through Show n Tell during Circle Time.
Excursions are a vital part of our program and include places such as; Police Station, Dentist, Butchers, Pet Shop, Library and the Civic Art Centre. We also have visits from other Professionals to the centre for music, movement and cultural events. The children also learn about our local Indigenous community and other cultures from around the world.
All School Readiness Children receive a Transition to School Statement which is provided to your School of choice which includes a comprehensive report of your childs’ individual developmental level of skill.
School Readiness places are limited and priority is given to children already enrolled in our service. A holding fee is required to secure your place and enquires need to be made as early as possible.
